About

Steve, the creator of racerli

Hi, I'm Steve and Racerli exists because I got frustrated.

For most of my life, running wasn't my thing. I found it hard, unenjoyable, and avoided it at all costs. In 2014 I took up road cycling instead, and I loved it... until a cycling accident in 2023 left me with a broken hip, three titanium pins and five months of rehab.

When I was finally cleared to exercise, something unexpected happened. I walked out of the hospital with a Forrest Gump style urge to run and I haven't stopped since.

Finding my people

During my first year of running I muddled through on my own. Then a chance conversation at the Knutsford 10K led me to join Glossopdale Harriers, my local club and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. The support, the community, the shared suffering on a Sunday morning. I loved it.

But joining a club also made me realise how much was missing when it came to actually finding and managing races.

I'd spend ages across multiple websites trying to work out if a race was actually right for me, not just the distance and date, but what it was really like. Is the course enjoyable? Is it well organised? Would someone like me enjoy it? There was no good answer to any of that.

When I did find races I liked, I'd save them in browser bookmarks, WhatsApp messages to myself, notes apps and still somehow manage to double-book myself. Twice.

And despite being in a club full of runners, I had no easy way of knowing who was doing what. Facebook groups and WhatsApp threads helped a bit, but it was messy. I wanted to see what my clubmates were entering for the motivation, the company and a bit of friendly competition.

So I built Racerli.

More than a race calendar

Plenty of sites list races. Racerli does something different.

When you sign up, you get your own My Races page — a personal hub where you can track races you've entered, save ones you're thinking about, spot any scheduling clashes, and keep private notes on events you've done or want to do. No more bookmarks. No more double-bookings.

And if you're in a running club, the My Club page shows you what your clubmates are racing. It's a simple idea, but it changes things — suddenly you're not just finding races, you're finding out who else is going to be there.

Racerli is built for runners of all abilities, from first-timers to seasoned race veterans. Whether you're nervously eyeing up your first 5K or deep into planning a fell marathon, I hope it helps you find the right races and enjoy the journey a bit more.

Why the community matters

Racerli gets better the more runners use it. Every review, photo and rating helps someone else make a better decision about a race, whether it's their very first event or their fiftieth.

If Racerli has helped you, sharing it with a clubmate or fellow runner is the best way to pay it forward.

Thanks Steve
